How many states of matter are there?

A fourth state of matter?

If you've only heard of three states of matter (solid, liquid and gas), then you're behind the times. In the middle 1990s, physicists at the University of Colorado at Boulder created a new state of matter, which only exists at temperatures just above absolute zero. So far the only place they've seen the super-dense matter is in the laboratory, but it is speculated that this matter exists naturally somewhere in the universe.
